This is not a diet! The secret of weight loss and weight management is proper metabolism. The word metabolism comes from greek metabolism.jpg, the Greek word for ‘change’. And, that is what you can easily do... change your metabolism, by making changes in your life style! Yvonne wants to help you make healthy changes, small changes, but successful and satisfying, permanent changes.

The Gift Of Life
Without going into any religion, we just call it the Gift of Life. Mother Nature gave us a healthy body, but a lot of us do not take good care of that gift. The reason is often that people don’t think about planning their life. They just do the things they do, spontaneous, going into a situation blind-folded, and deal with the consequences or any problems when they encounter them. An example is: getting children > childcare > not being able to work and being home for the kids > bills to pay > not enough time to do it all!

Where Are You Going?
Ask yourself: “Who am I?” “Where am I going?” “What is my goal?” Do you have a plan for the future? Did you think about, what might happen if you were not able to work anymore, because of an illness? Maybe an illness that could have been prevented, if you would have planned your future; if you would have sat down, and looked where you could spend more time on yourself, spend time on taking care of yourself, and spend quality time with family and friends.
I often blame peer pressure for the things that happen to us; peer pressure from school, from the media and television images. We have to be thinner or have to have ‘that special look’. We have to have that bigger house, a ring bigger than our neighbor, or that bigger car. We suffer from this, even though we do not realize it until something bad happens to us or our family or close friends. When we realize this, we are ready to make changes.

Compare Eating With Shopping
You buy things you don’t need, but want. It is the same with eating. We don’t eat what we need for nutritional purposes, we eat what looks good, smells good… what we want, right then and there.
The reason for this type of spontaneous eating is, because we do not plan what and when we eat.  Due to our cravings and our lifestyle, we often eat, because our brain sends a signal that is ‘in need of something’. This signal can be satisfied with a glass of water, a cup of hot tea, or even a piece of fruit, but most people, satisfy this cry with: a drive-through snack, a large soda or a bag of chips.
The fact that we ‘really want it’ is caused by the comforting effect of food: hot milk with a spoonful of honey makes you sleep like a baby; chicken soup soothes your whole body, when you have the blues or even when you have a cold. My mom had a cup of hot tea and cookies ready for my brother and me, when we would come home, cold from our bike-trip from school.
Food brings comfort and nutrition, but when we restrict our intake, we create cravings, which we can resist for a while, but that produces a depletion in certain nutrients. This can result in weakening our immune system, our hormone production, which all contribute to diseases, like Diabetes 2, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and cancers.
Being overweight is the result of an imbalance of our nutritional and activity scale.
